CREDIT BUREAUS: Do credit bureaus assign you a "credit rating"?
The function of a credit bureau is to collect and maintain information on how consumers use credit. They do not evaluate the credit-worthiness of individual consumers. Credit bureaus do, however, "rate" individual accounts depending on how they've been paid or the "manner of payment." A rating of "1" means an account has been paid within 30 days of billing or as agreed. Creditors and others who use credit reports may or may not assign credit ratings based on information obtained from credit reports, as well as from credit applications and interviews.
